In October of 2018, *Allen, age 78, began noticing mild chest pains. As a patient previously prescribed a blood thinning medication, he immediately became concerned and sought medical treatment for his symptoms. His results showed elevated levels of blood clotting factors, but his doctors were not able to identify the root cause. Because elevated clotting factors can lead to pulmonary embolisms, strokes, or heart attacks, a lack of proper treatment can become deadly.
After a lengthy period without resolution, Allen received a recommendation from his clinician to consider Aperiomics’ Xplore-PATHO testing to determine if an infection was a factor. His clinician had used Aperiomics testing for several patients in the past with overwhelming success, and suspecting Allen’s issue might involve an infection, ordered a blood plasma collection kit for Allen. Aperiomics identified 34 species of bacteria in Allen’s plasma sample – some at high levels – placing Allen in danger of sepsis.
